Cost for damages caused on cultural heritage and materials. Some data may be

published in the report from the UN ECE workshop on Economic Evaluation of Air

Pollution Abatement and Damage to Buildings including cultural heritage, 23 - 25

January 1996. However, the report is not yet published. Estimates of total corrosion

costs have been estimated to between $ 3.40 and $26 per inhabitant per year, equal to

between $2 and $18 billion for Europe as a whole. The largest part of this is however

due to SO2.

Over Europe there are national studies made in many countries, Norway (Central

Bureau of Statistics) and Sweden (Central Bureau of Statistics and National Institute

of Economic Research). So far sulphur is mainly studied, but work is proceeding for

NOx.
